The material in detail

UV printing preserves wood's natural character β€” the grain shows through the ink, giving prints a warmth and texture that canvas or paper can never match. When Glastrix printed editions for Zozoville Gallery's artists Johan Potma and Mateo Dineen, the result was described as "stunning β€” the wood gives a matt finish, and the woodgrain shows through lightly, adding a natural texture." Glastrix prints on birch, poplar, MDF, and custom-sourced panels up to 3.20 Γ— 2 metres. From wedding invitations on birch panels to retail product signs for boutiques, to fine-art editions for international galleries β€” wood printing is one of the most versatile and emotionally resonant applications of UV technology. White-label fulfilment from 1 piece: no setup fee, shipped within 48h, 5-year guarantee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which wood types can you print on?

Glastrix prints on birch, poplar, MDF, and other flat wood panels. UV ink adheres to both raw and pre-finished surfaces. If you have a specific wood in mind, send a sample for a test print.

Does the woodgrain show through the print?

Yes β€” UV ink is translucent enough that the natural grain remains visible, giving each print a unique texture. If you want full colour coverage with no grain showing, Glastrix can apply a white underlay first.

How does UV print on wood compare to canvas or photo paper?

Canvas and paper prints require a frame and are vulnerable to moisture. UV print on wood is frameless, moisture-resistant, and the natural woodgrain becomes part of the artwork itself. Wood prints have a matt, tactile depth that synthetic substrates cannot replicate, and each piece is structurally self-sufficient without framing hardware.

Do wood prints need framing?

No. Glastrix can pre-drill hanging hardware or supply panels ready to hang directly from the wall β€” no frame required. Wood panels are structural on their own.

Can you reproduce fine art photography on wood?

Yes β€” and this is one of Glastrix's most requested applications. Watercolour paintings, photography, and illustration all translate exceptionally well to wood, with the grain adding natural depth. Glastrix has produced editions for Berlin galleries and international artists including Zozoville Gallery.

Glastrix is a dream for artists and other practitioners that wish to work with someone who is dedicated to the creative process. Eric and I spent hours in the studio together developing catered approaches to printing on the strange materials I brought in, and I am excited to continue this process. I found, at Glastrix, not only high quality printing and attention to detail, but an experimental and welcoming studio environment.
